Six major effects of globalization

Carnoy (1999) noted that there were at least six major effects of globalization in education as listed below:
  1. Education as a marketable commodity and the commodification of knowledge – universities (education) become an export industry. Also export language and culture.
  2. The dominance of the English language.
  3. Internationalization and diversity.
  4. Increasing decentralization in education.
  5. Curriculum reform and notion of ‘valuable’ knowledge.
  6. The growth of international testing.
