Traditional
Teaching Experienced in the Civics
The
other scale used to examine the type of civic education experienced
was a five-item scale of traditional teaching experienced in the
civics, history, or social studies classroom. The items for the
traditional scale are
- Teachers lecture and the students take notes.
- Teachers place great importance on learning facts ordates when presenting history or political events.
- Teachers require students to memorize dates ordefinitions.
- Memorizing dates and facts is the best way to get a good grade from teachers in these classes.
- Students work on material from the textbook. (page 17)
